For the past 15 years I have been setting ancient Hebrew texts to music. My heart was always in search of verses with universal themes, which connect us all as human beings, regardless of where we come from or what we believe.
About seven years ago, I started meditating daily with the Hebrew Psalms, finding endless comfort, inspiration and guidance in these beautiful texts, and their gifts of infinite wisdom and empowerment. My work as a composer since then has been dedicated solely to what has become "The Psalms Project”.
Tfilati (My Prayer) is the first full album from The Psalms Project, featuring the soundtrack of a very special chapter of my life: from my wedding day to the birth of our child.
This album includes pieces composed for our wedding, for the birth, and a bonus track not from the Psalms, dedicated to our child who was born just before Shabbat: ‘Shalom Aleichem’ with a new melody.
Most of the pieces were composed during the divine journey of pregnancy, and it seemed like the album and the baby were gestating simultaneously and ready to be born at the same time. I made it to the recording studio just a few days before the birth, with our baby dancing in my big belly throughout the recording sessions.
Since then, this soundtrack has been holding a space for introspection and emotional healing for many participants of The Psalms Project Workshops. What I find so moving about the Psalms is the depth and beauty of the ongoing conversation between the human soul and its’ Creator. I chose to record these songs with just voice and piano to honor the intimacy and vulnerability of this sacred conversation.
It is my hope that the profound healing energy of the Hebrew Psalms will shine through the music, holding a space of grace and transformation for all who listen. Love, maYa
